Contractor accommodation in Forest Gate E7 — near Stratford and the Royal Docks
Nine minutes' walk to the Elizabeth line and one stop from Stratford. A two-bedroom, single-level flat with a proper desk, washer/dryer and one free unreserved forecourt space.
Page reviewed 2026-09-14.
The short answer. Forest Gate is the practical east London home: two zip-link bedrooms, a washer/dryer, a fold-down desk and Wi-Fi over 100 Mbps. The station is nine minutes on foot, Stratford is one stop away, and the flat has one free space — useful, but not guaranteed because it is shared and unreserved.
What we cannot do here. The free parking space is shared, unmarked and first come. It is not a guaranteed bay. The flat does not take pets, and the Elizabeth line is direct to Liverpool Street and Paddington via the Shenfield branch, but Canary Wharf needs a change at Whitechapel.
What we have here
Each one opens on its own page, with the facts, the drawbacks and a calculator that gives you the total for your dates.
The honest version of the location
Forest Gate is not Stratford, and it is not useful to blur the two. The flat is in E7. Forest Gate station is a nine-minute walk, Stratford is one stop away, and Westfield Stratford City is about eighteen minutes door to door by bus. Ten minutes is a convenient label; eighteen is the figure we can stand behind.
The Elizabeth line service from Forest Gate is on the Shenfield branch. It runs directly through Stratford and Whitechapel to Liverpool Street, Farringdon, Tottenham Court Road, Bond Street and Paddington. Canary Wharf and Abbey Wood are on the other branch, so Canary Wharf requires a change at Whitechapel.
A flat that works for weeks
The flat is 871 square feet and all on one level. Both bedrooms are zip-link, so they can be made up as twin beds for colleagues or a super-king for a couple. It sleeps five, but the right capacity depends on how many people need separate rooms rather than how many bodies fit on paper.
This is the one of the five homes with a proper working corner: a wall-mounted fold-down desk, office chair and adjustable lamp. It is also the only home where we have a measured Wi-Fi figure — over 100 Mbps throughout. The washer/dryer is in the kitchen, which matters more than a decorative amenity list on a six-week stay.
- Two zip-link bedrooms: twin or super-king
- One bathroom and 871 sq ft, all on one level
- Fold-down desk, office chair and adjustable lamp
- Washer/dryer in the kitchen
- Wi-Fi measured at over 100 Mbps throughout
East London work sites
Barts Health describes itself as the largest NHS trust in the country, with around 20,000 staff across five hospitals. Newham Hospital in Plaistow has approximately 340 inpatient beds and more than 1,700 staff, putting a real local employer on the page rather than a list of vague landmarks.
East Bank on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is now largely open. UCL East, London College of Fashion, Sadler's Wells East, V&A East Museum and V&A East Storehouse are operating, while BBC Music Studios is the final venue due to open in 2027.
- Newham Hospital, Plaistow — around 340 inpatient beds and over 1,700 staff
- Barts Health: Newham, The Royal London, St Bartholomew's, Whipps Cross and Mile End
- East Bank — UCL East, London College of Fashion, Sadler's Wells East and V&A East
If your shift crosses the river
The Silvertown Tunnel opened in April 2025 and the user charge applies to both Silvertown and Blackwall. The charge runs from 06:00 to 22:00 every day except Christmas Day; crossings are free between 22:00 and 06:00.
The off-peak Auto Pay rate published by TfL is £1.50 for cars, motorbikes and small vans. A night shift can cross for free; a 07:30 start cannot. Check the current TfL rate and vehicle category before putting the crossing into a job budget.
The parking is useful, not guaranteed
There is one free space on the shared block-paved forecourt at the front. It is not numbered or marked, so it works first come. If a car is in it when you arrive, message us and we will point you to the nearest alternative; do not book this flat on the assumption that a private bay is reserved for you.
Newham prices resident and visitor parking permits by vehicle emissions inside its controlled parking zones. That makes a free forecourt space a genuine saving over several weeks, even though this one cannot promise the space every night.
What we will quote, and what we will not
We do not print a nightly figure on this area page. Rates, discounts and the cleaning treatment need checking against the dates you choose, and the booking engine is the place that returns the total that applies.
For an employer, agency or relocation booking, send the dates, headcount, vehicle requirement and site postcode. We can confirm whether the flat's one unreserved space is suitable before anyone commits to it.
The claims we have left out
We have not repeated the old shorthand that Forest Gate is ten minutes from Westfield Stratford, or that Canary Wharf is a direct train. The first is about eighteen minutes by bus; the second needs a change at Whitechapel. We have also not claimed a guaranteed parking bay, a pet-friendly stay or a mid-stay housekeeping service where the source does not settle those points.
Specificity is the point of this page. If a requirement is non-negotiable, put it in the enquiry and get the answer in writing.

Driving and parking
- Forest Gate is inside the London-wide ULEZ but outside the Congestion Charge zone.

- Newham's controlled parking zones price resident and visitor permits by vehicle emissions; surrounding street bays are not a substitute for a guaranteed space.

- TfL's published off-peak Auto Pay rate for cars, motorbikes and small vans is £1.50; confirm the current rate for the vehicle before budgeting.
- The Congestion Charge does not reach Forest Gate, but a destination elsewhere in the zone may still incur it.
Questions people ask
Is Forest Gate direct to Canary Wharf?
No. Forest Gate is on the Elizabeth line's Shenfield branch. Canary Wharf is on the other branch and requires a change at Whitechapel. The direct stations from Forest Gate include Stratford, Whitechapel, Liverpool Street, Farringdon, Tottenham Court Road, Bond Street and Paddington.
How close is it to Stratford?
Forest Gate station is a nine-minute walk from the flat and Stratford is one Elizabeth line stop away, about five minutes. Westfield Stratford City is about eighteen minutes door to door by bus.
Is the parking guaranteed?
No. There is one free space on a shared forecourt, but it is not numbered or marked and works first come. If it is occupied when you arrive, we will point you to the nearest alternative.
Does the flat have a desk and reliable Wi-Fi?
Yes. It has a fold-down desk, office chair and adjustable lamp. Wi-Fi has been measured at over 100 Mbps throughout the flat; it is the only Unity home where we publish a measured speed.
Can I do laundry in the flat?
Yes. There is a washer/dryer in the kitchen, plus an iron and cleaning equipment.
Can I bring a pet?
No. The house rules for this flat do not allow pets. Ask us about the other homes if a dog or cat is part of the requirement.
What is there near Forest Gate for work?
Newham Hospital is in Plaistow, Barts Health operates five east London hospitals, and East Bank at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is now largely open. Tell us the actual site postcode and we will check the route rather than treating all of east London as one commute.
What will the stay cost?
We do not print a nightly figure on this area page because rates and discounts depend on the dates. The booking engine returns the total for the exact stay; send us the dates if a company needs the figure in writing before committing.
Is Forest Gate inside the Congestion Charge zone?
No. It is inside ULEZ, so a non-compliant vehicle can incur the ULEZ daily charge, but the Congestion Charge zone does not reach Forest Gate. A destination elsewhere in London may still be charged.

Need somewhere we don't have
If none of these fit, or the job is in a city we don't have a home in, send us the requirement. We place what we can ourselves and put the rest to the operators we work with.
