Practical guide for any placement

Choose the base around the work, not the town name.

The nearest city is a poor shortcut for a work stay. The right base is the one that makes the actual daily journey, sleeping arrangement and practical routine work for the whole placement.

This guide helps you compare a published home or brief a sourced stay. Routes, property facts, prices and availability must be checked for the dates you need.

Need a real answer?

Send the location, dates and practical requirements. We will point you to a current home or explain what can be sourced.

Send your accommodation brief

A guide is information, not a booking or availability result.

Pin the destination properly

Use the work postcode, gate or building entrance. Include secondary sites if the team moves during the week, because a base that suits one address may create a poor daily trip to another.

A map distance does not show shift times, road restrictions, station walks, parking or changes. Treat the route as a practical part of the accommodation specification.

Test the journey you will actually make

Check the first departure, last return, walking distance and changes for the real start and finish times. If tools, vans or safety equipment travel with the team, compare driving and public transport separately.

For multi-week stays, a small daily inconvenience repeats many times. Set a maximum commute and make the provider answer against it rather than accepting a vague 'nearby' description.

Compare the home as well as the route

Check separate beds, bedrooms, kitchen, laundry, parking, workspace and privacy. A shorter commute does not rescue a sleeping arrangement or vehicle plan that cannot work.

Ask for the total for the dates and any cleaning or required extras. The live booking result or confirmed quote is more reliable than an old headline rate.

Questions before you enquire

Is staying in the city centre always best?

No. It depends on the work site, shift pattern, vehicles and the practical journey. Compare the actual route instead of assuming the centre is the best base.

Should I choose by driving time or public transport?

Use the option the team will really rely on. If both are possible, include both in the brief so parking, tools and shift times can be considered.

What if the project location changes?

List the possible sites and the likely pattern early. A different base or a multi-site solution may be more sensible than forcing one address.
